What’s the difference between Q-ID® and Q-RAND®?
Q-ID® stops physical products being counterfeited. It’s a printed atomic fingerprint verified by smartphone. Q-RAND® stops digital systems being compromised, it’s a hardware component that generates true random numbers for cryptography and security infrastructure. Different problems, same underlying physics: quantum behaviour that can’t be predicted or replicated.
Are Q-ID® and Q-RAND® related, or completely separate products?
Separate in application, but built on the same scientific foundation. Both exploit quantum unpredictability at the atomic or nanoscale. Q-ID® turns it into a unique physical identity, Q-RAND® turns it into numbers that can’t be predicted. One team, one science, two problems solved.
Which product do we need?
If your risk is counterfeiting, diversion, or product authenticity, that’s Q-ID®. If your risk is predictable or exploitable randomness in cryptographic keys, blockchain, banking authentication, or defence systems, that’s Q-RAND®. Some organisations, particularly in government, defence, or high-value goods have a use case for both.
Can Q-ID® and Q-RAND® be used together?
There’s no dependency between them, each stands alone. But for organisations managing both physical product security and digital system security, having both under one supplier with one shared scientific foundation simplifies procurement and vendor risk assessment.
Is either product still in development, or are they both commercially available?
Both are in commercial deployment. Q-ID® is live at industrial scale, over 2 billion units authenticated. Q-RAND® is NIST suite compliant and ready for integration into existing microelectronic systems. Neither is a lab prototype.

Quantum Base, founded out of Lancaster University in 2015 by Professor Rob Young. Listed on the London Stock Exchange as LON: QUBE, with 40+ patents and peer-reviewed research underpinning both products.
