The atomic fingerprint that ends counterfeiting.

Printed like ink. Authenticated in three seconds. Atomic-level security created by physics, not by a code.

INTRODUCTION

What Q-ID® is

What Q-ID® is

Q-ID® is a quantum authentication technology printed directly onto products and packaging using quantum-active ink. Each Q-ID® forms a unique atomic fingerprint which anyone can authenticate with a smartphone in three seconds: no readers, no training, just a binary result — genuine or not.
Q-ID® is a quantum authentication technology printed directly onto products and packaging using quantum-active ink. Each Q-ID® forms a unique atomic fingerprint that cannot be copied, reverse-engineered, or replicated — even with the same ink, press, or data. Anyone can authenticate it with a smartphone in three seconds: no readers, no training, just a binary result — genuine or not.

THE SOLUTION

The problem it solves

The problem
it solves

Every existing authentication technology operates on the same principle: create a feature that is difficult to copy. Holograms. Microprinting. Specialist inks. Security QR codes. All of them have been counterfeited. All of them will be counterfeited again — because any feature an industrial process can produce, an industrial process can replicate.

Q-ID® is different. The identity exists at the atomic-level.

How it works

How it works

Print.

Quantum-active ink is printed on a standard litho, flexo, or inkjet press. No new press. No retooling. No process changes. The atomic molecules in the ink arrange themselves uniquely — not by design, but by the behaviour of physics at the nanoscale.

Capture.

At line speed, a machine vision system captures each Q-ID® at up to 1,000 per second and registers it in the Proof-of-Print database. Every product has an identity before it leaves the production line.

Excitation.

A standard smartphone flash directs a pulse of light at the Q-ID® surface. The quantum-active atoms are excited — triggered to respond in a way determined entirely by their unique atomic arrangement.

Emission.

The excited atoms emit photons. The pattern of that emission is set by the quantum state of those specific atoms. No two Q-IDs emit the same pattern. The smartphone camera captures it.

Authentication.

Patented algorithms analyse the captured emission and compare it against the registered signature in the Proof-of-Print database. Under three seconds. Match: genuine. No match: not genuine. The physics doesn't negotiate.

What makes Q-ID® different?

What makes
it different

Feature

What it means in practice

Per-item identity

Every single unit has its own unique registered identity. Not batch-level. Not a shared code. One compromised item is just one.

No images stored

Authentication compares encrypted hashes, not images. There is nothing to steal and no way to reverse-engineer a working Q-ID® from the data.

Smartphone verification

Any smartphone. No dedicated readers. No specialist equipment. Authentication reach extends to every consumer, inspector, and supply chain partner worldwide.

No app to download on iOS

App Clip technology means iOS users authenticate without downloading anything. Zero friction. Maximum reach.

Proof-of-Print registry

Every Q-ID® is registered before it leaves the line. A duplicate — even printed on the same press — mismatches the registry immediately.

Real-time intelligence

Every scan returns location, time, and device data. Counterfeit clusters and grey market diversion surface as they happen.

No new press. No retooling.

Q-ID® prints in the same production run on existing equipment. No capital expenditure on press infrastructure.

GS1 compliant

Integrates with existing serialisation and Track & Trace systems. One scan delivers authentication and serialisation data simultaneously.

Sovereign data residency

Data hosted on-premises, in the cloud, or hybrid — by the brand, by QB, or by an authorised partner.

The science

The science

Q-ID® harnesses atomic-scale imperfections in quantum materials as reliable identity fingerprints. These variations are unique by physics, not design, and impossible to replicate — no manufacturing process can control matter at atomic precision. Quantum Base developed machine learning algorithms that measure these variations using only a smartphone camera. The mechanism is documented and peer-reviewed in Nature Scientific Reports. The security is independently validated science, not a vendor claim.

Frequently asked
questions

Add Q-ID® to your portfolio, or protect your products against counterfeits.

Add Q-ID® to your portfolio, or protect your products against counterfeits.

Is Q-ID® a physical product, a service, or both?

Both. Q-ID® is the quantum-active ink itself, a physical product applied during printing, plus the registration software, authentication app or SDK, and data platform that make it work. You’re not just buying ink; you’re buying the full authentication system around it.

Do we supply the ink, or does Quantum Base?

Either. The ink can be included as part of your licence, or sourced separately through a number of global ink suppliers, whichever fits your existing procurement and print partner relationships.

Does Q-ID® work offline?

Yes, an offline mode is available for contexts like field inspection where data connectivity can’t be guaranteed, inspectors can still verify authenticity without a live connection, with data syncing once reconnected.

Can we keep authentication and scan data entirely on our own infrastructure?

Yes. Data residency is flexible hosted on-premises, in the cloud, or hybrid, and managed by you, by Quantum Base, or by an authorised partner. This is built for organisations, including governments, with strict data sovereignty requirements.

Does Q-ID® replace our existing QR codes or serial numbers, or work alongside them?

Alongside. Q-ID® is GS1 compliant and designed to integrate with the serialisation and track & trace systems you already run, one scan delivers both an authentication result and your existing serialisation data.

What’s actually covered by the 40+ patents?

The core science: the method for creating atomic-level uniqueness in printed ink, and the algorithms that read and verify it from a standard smartphone. It’s this combination not just the ink, and not just the app, that the patent portfolio protects.
